"The Knockings"
I've never had a NDE, but what appears to run in our family (my mother's
side) is what we call 'the knockings'.
My mother told me that years ago she had been was sitting in bed (she
stressed that she was wide awake, not dozing, so it wasn't a dream) when
she heard knocks on her bedroom door. There was no one there. About 4
weeks later my grandmother died.
In December 1975, one afternoon, I was doing the ironing when I heard
knocks at the kitchen door; which was slightly ajar. The door led into a
small passageway with another door to the left leading to the front
garden and one to the right leading to the back garden. I was startled,
the knocks were definitely on the inner door, and on investigation, both
outer doors were locked.....and no one was at either anyway. My husband
had a stroke on 1 January and died a week later.
My mother later told me that she thought that my husband had come to say
goodbye to her because she had felt a feathery touch on her arm, and had
'known' it was him. I was fascinated by this, and we often talked about
it.
Nine years ago my sister was in her kitchen, and, strangely enough, also
ironing, when she heard knockings at her kitchen door. On first reaction
she was scared, because she lives in an upstairs flat and thought
someone had got in. No one was there, and she immediately knew what it
was. She phoned me........our mother was ill, but then had not been
diagnosed as having terminal cancer. About four weeks later she was
dead.
My mother had been at home when she died, and my father, sister and I
nursed her to the end (which fortunately was fairly quick and painless).
Shortly after the funeral directors had taken her body, I entered her
bedroom. I smelled burning, had a strange feeling........and felt a
feathery brushing along my right arm. I 'knew' that she was showing me
she was still 'around' by copying what my husband had done!
Unfortunately I don't know if this 'goes back' further than my mother,
but Mum did mention that my grandmother was interested in (what used to
be termed) the 'unknown', so who knows? She died before I was born so I
never knew her. No one else on my mother's side has mentioned similar
experiences.....but then I've never asked directly, and we don't keep in
regular contact.
Needless to say we live in dread of hearing the 'knockings'. OK, some
would say it could be pk, or esp facilitated by the mind-numbing act of
ironing, etc etc., and that in itself would be strange.......but three
of us having the same type of experience?!
I would welcome your comments.
